Salutations, Henchmen!
Halloween is now less than a week away so I suppose it is now acceptable to celebrate as you wish! Personally, I’ve been indulging myself by revisiting the classic horror movie franchise offerings available on Amazon Prime Video. So far I’ve been through Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream. After several hours of being reminded how cringey everything was in the eighties, by the time I arrived at Scream I definitely welcomed its self-awareness and satirical nature. It is hands-down the best so far. No question. What is your favourite scary movie? Feel free to leave a comment below or hit me up on Twitter or Instagram (@vesperofevil). Any suggestions for my next viewing experience are very welcome at this point.
Seeing as it’s the Wednesday before Halloween and the slasher genre is at the forefront of my mind, I’ve decided to devote this week’s Woman Worship to my favourite scream queen. After all, horror films are just excuses to satisfy our perverse sadistic and sexual preoccupations, right? Forget the monster; the female lead is the true focal point that makes or breaks the movie. With that said, my favourite scream queen is hardly ever considered in the scream queen discussion, mostly because she is so iconic that she’s transcended the role that earned her the title in the first place. She’s no longer a scream queen, she’s THE QUEEN. Your Woman Crush this week is none other than the legendary Sigourney Weaver!
Hey, sci-fi horror still counts! Besides, vicious aliens that obliterate humans are so much more terrifying and original than losers in masks that fancy themselves a serial killer. The Alien franchise definitely puts her in contention for the title of scream queen. While we’re at it, let’s not forget about Ghostbusters either, eh?! Was it just me or did her possession by Zuul make her even more attractive? I don’t know about you but I’d risk death by demon to hit that. Mwahaha.
I recently came across an article from the New York Times about Sigourney Weaver that reminded me how amazing she is (check it out here, it does her more justice than I ever could). Looking at how well rounded her career has been and how interesting she is as a person, I couldn’t help but see her as the perfect Women Crush, even at 71 (again, I’d still hit that…hehe). First of all, she’s six feet tall. Six feet of flawless, sharp beauty. That’s enough in itself.
On top of her stunning looks, she’s obviously intelligent, which, as you all know, is equally as important to your Overlord. It’s evident in the roles she’s drawn to and the way she’s been able to avoid being typecast throughout the years. The woman can and has done everything, from badass heroine roles, to comedic roles, to award-winning dramatic roles. Heck, she even narrated the Planet Earth series (she definitely gets bonus points in my books for caring about environmentalism). WHAT RANGE!
Most importantly though, she seems like a genuinely interesting person with a unique personality and that solidifies her position in the upper echelon of Women Crushes. You would never get bored with this woman at your side. She’s knowledgeable, experienced and talented. A truly iconic figure. Need I really say more? We all know how perfect of a specimen she is, so let’s just enjoy more photos and bask in her glory.
Well, I’m now truly satisfied for the day. Hehe. Until next time, Henchmen! Stay safe and stay evil!
