Women Crush Wednesday
Salutations, Henchmen!
First of all, I’d like to thank those of you who stopped by my room on CB this past Thursday to see the unveiling of Vesper’s Vault™ and, of course, to celebrate my lewd live-stream return. If you missed it, do not weep for your poor deprived libidos. Your Overlord is a virtual spectre whose presence may be summoned if you stare at the homepage of CB and turn your light on and off six times while chanting “Vesper, Vesper, Vesper…” Or, you know, by following me and turning on your notifications. But that’s a lot less exciting.
Okay, on to your Woman Crush. This week I’ve decided to go with a music-related Woman Crush instead of choosing a lovely leading lady from the random TV shows or movies I’ve been bingeing. On the one hand, I’ll be sparing you from revisiting yet another B-list celebrity that I crushed on back in the aughts (although, is that reaaalllyyy such a bad thing?). On the other hand, it’s an opportunity for me to infect you with the earworm that’s been firmly lodged in my brain since the SuperBowl so you can all suffer as much as I have! MWAHAHAHAHAHA!
Allow me to introduce you to Alisa Xayalith, the woman in the video above who is absolutely crushing the best cover of “Blinded by the Lights” you’ll ever hear. She’s the front woman of the synth-pop band The Naked and Famous, who I’ve been a casual fan of since their hit single “Young Blood” found it’s way to my high-schooler eardrums in 2010. Her sultry, smooth voice and willingness to share music based on personal emotion and experiences makes her easy to fall in love with as an artist but there’s many other reasons to worship her as a Woman Crush as well. There’s obviously a certain level of passion, creative genius and ingenuity involved in founding and fronting your own indie band that’s achieved any level of fame and success. That upstart/ willingness to chase your dreams mentality is always a very attractive quality to me. In a Woman Crush it’s as important an aspect as physical attractiveness (which Alisa definitely has as well, of course).
I mean, isn’t she just dripping with cool hotness vibes? You’ve got to admit, she’s got style. Fashionable, creative, artistic, talented, cool AND sexy. What’s not to love, eh? BUT WAIT, there’s more…she from New Zealand, so she has the most adorable kiwi accent. That’s it, the final straw that induced a full-on swoon from me. Dig out the smelling salts, please. I’ll leave you with another jam from your new favourite kiwi while I recover.
Until next time, Henchmen! Good luck getting “Blinded by the Lights” out of your head again for the millionth time this year. Teehee.
