Women Crush Wednesday
Salutations, Henchmen!
It happened. I woke up this morning to a subtle glow outside of my window. Not from sunshine, no, the sky was a gloomy grey. Instead, the eerie glow came from below…the ground was covered in snow. I guess I’d better round up the Lazersharkz before my moat freezes over and start rolling out the armoured moose instead. Perhaps this year I should insulate the dungeon? It takes all the fun out of it when your prisoners freeze to death before you’re able to torture them. Sigh. It’s been well into the negative temperatures for weeks now, so I honestly expected this earlier. I even knit my first toque last week in preparation! Anyway, the good news is that my signature great white north content* will be underway soon-ish! Well, actually, it’s better to have at least a few feet of snow to work with for said content. I suppose we’ll have to wait until the sleet and freezing rain stage is over. Ew. November sucks, doesn’t it? It brings terrible weather (blah), the start of christmas shopping (yikes), no discernable holidays or anything to look forward to (unless you’re american and celebrate thanksgiving a month late), and a meaningless time change that makes darkness fall at 4pm (goodbye nightlife). It’s like the Eyore of months. Lately, your Overlord has been getting through it by getting online for some fun (thank to those of you who have stopped by during my shows, btw!), going extra hard at my punching bag during my workouts, playing way too much guitar hero and burying myself in a new tv series. For the record, that series is G.L.O.W. and I highly, highly recommend it. It’s hilarious, heart-warming and centered around women’s wrestling in the 80’s. It’s a banger! Plus, it just so happens to star someone who has already been recommended to me by a Henchman for this newsletter, so now is the perfect time to feature her as your Woman Crush. With that said, allow me to introduce your Woman Crush for this week, the gorgeous and talented star of G.L.O.W….Alison Brie!
*You know the drill; bikinis in the snow, lewd snow sculptures, toques with everything, etc. Although, I am still searching for a sexy canuck to be the Doug to my Bob. That’s right- my dream of having the lewdest Bob & Doug McKenzie impersonator show is still alive and well!! I just need a co-star! Who can make my dreams come true, eh?! EH?!
Seriously though, did I really need to introduce her? She’s already a television LEGEND. From Mad Men to Community to BoJack Horseman, she’s starred in some good shit! Or, perhaps you’ve seen her (or heard her) in one of her many films, like Scream 4, the Lego Movie, Sleeping with Other People and Promising Young Woman. She’s been on my radar since I saw her in Community, where she somehow managed to make her annoying, goodie two-shoes character, Annie Eddison, attractive. Oh, come on- you’d hit Annie. Even with the grating voice and questionnable fashion choices. Admit it! She’s still a babe. Hehe. By the way, if you haven’t seen Community, you should get on that. It’s one of your Overlord’s favourite sitcoms and is the perfect comedic cure for November dreariness.
If her comedic chops in Community aren’t your style, then those deep blue eyes are still bound to do the trick. They’re the literal definition of doe eyes. Imagine staring into those eyes in person? I’m flustered just thinking about it.
I also can’t help but admire her fearlessness. She isn’t afraid to take on a new style of role, having done everything from comedy to horror to drama. She also isn’t afraid of trying new things for the sake of her artistry, having learned how to wrestle for G.L.O.W. and having written and produced two films.
Between her evident ambition, work ethic and passion for the industry and her classical beauty, I think it’s safe to assume that there will be good things ahead for Alison Brie in Hollywood ….and I’ll be more than happy to watch what comes next! ;) In the meantime, enjoy both her quirky humour and glamorous posts on your timeline by following her on Instagram (@alisonbrie).
